E-DRUG: New JOPP article about Drug Donations (2)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Richard Laing,
Need was felt for Drugs Donation Guidelines during EQ 2005 disaster response in Pakistan when our EM team was working on storage and distribution of donated medicines.
Local and international donations were having huge quantities of medicines which were of no use to disaster affected population. The reason was some items were not used at PHC level including medicines and supplies and also a reason was medicines with information in other languages.
I was based at WHO country office for 3 years that time and in supervision of out country advisor EMP, guidelines for donations were initiated.
Our EMP team in Pakistan faced 5 disasters (EQ, Floods, IDP) during last one decade and donation guidelines helped us a lot to avoid wastage of resources on non essential medicines and supplies.Mentioned non essential supply were also causing huge space occupancy and expiry problems leading to time and resource wastage on its incineration.
Thank you and regards
