E-DRUG: donations guidelines

E-DRUG: donations guidelines (cont)
-----------------------------------

Regarding Rob Verhage's request for information, the following countries
have adapted the Interagency Guidelines for Drug Donations. The guidelines
were coordinated by WHO, and issued on behalf of the sponsors in their
final version in March 1999.

National guidelines were issued or officially endorsed by 6 donor
countries:

Australia, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand and Norway.

And the following recipient countries have adopted their own versions:

Armenia, Bolivia, Estonia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia, Vietnam,
Niger, Peru, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Over 25 other countries had had national discussions a year ago. The list
is therefore probably longer today.

Regarding his enquiry about guidelines for donations of medical supplies,
the UN 'Emergency Relief Items - Compendium of Basic Specifications' may be
a useful resource for both donors and recipients. It is available from WHO
and UNHCR. It incorporates the New Emergency Health Kit as an annex.

best wishes,
Philippa Saunders.
