E-DRUG: New website about malaria
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
I'm writing to let you know about a new website called ResurgentMalaria.com.
ResurgentMalaria.com explores historical and political aspects of the spread
of malaria, including the role of poverty, maldevelopment, and ecological
disruption. There's commentary on DDT, the new push for eradication, the
spread of drug-resistant strains, the role of climate change, difficulties
in drug distribution and vaccine development, the connections between HIV
and malaria, and the forgotten history of malaria's recession in the West.
ResurgentMalaria.com aims to start a conversation on the complexity of
malaria<too long portrayed in the popular press as a failure of charitable
giving and technological quick-fixes<and to push journalists and others who
cover malaria to start digging deeper in the root causes of the disease.
Created in conjunction with my new book on malaria (forthcoming from Farrar,
Straus & Giroux in 2009), ResurgentMalaria.com also features a popular
discussion area where readers can exchange comments and questions.
All best,
Sonia Shah
