E-DRUG: New WHO ORS formula

Although many E-druggers will agree to the proposal to reduce the sodium
content and osmolarity of the existing "old" (?) ORS, I am still puzzled
why WHO did not use its own, new process of deciding on a new essential
drug!
The Essential Drug Committee met last month, but was not given a copy of
the new formula, nor was it given any of the evidence to support it. So WHO
is now announcing a new ORS formula that is not (yet) even an essential
drug....
Looks like EDM still have to do some advocacy about the new Essential Drug
process in house! Any comments from EDM?? WB]

Here is the detail on the ORS issue, promptly supplied by Chris Powell,
WHO Family and Community Health. Tables from the Word doc supplied have
been altered, preserving the detail, and the reference inserted. Anyone
care to comment on how this will affect recommendations for
home-prepared ORS?
