The WHO Model List of Essential Medicines has been updated every two years
since 1977. The current version, the 13th list, dates from April 2003. It
contains 316 active substances which include 12 ARVs and over 60 other
essential medicines for HIV-related care, including drugs against
opportunistic infections.
14th Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines:
regrettably it has proved necessary to postpone the date of the next Expert
Committee from 19-23 April 2004 to 7-11 March 2005.
The closing date for applications for inclusion, change or deletion of
medicines is now 31 October 2004. It is recommended that applications are
submitted as soon as possible to allow good time for review.
