E-DRUG: outsourcing of generics production in India and China - This dependence is a very neglected but important strategic policy issue.
-----------------------------------
[two interesting and sometimes worrying books, reviewed by E-drugger Lucas. We need to read all evidence but should avoid to demonize generics based on these incidents. In the end we need good quality affordable generics everywhere. And effective regulatory control. Discussion is welcome in E-drug. WB]
AMERICANS (and many other countries) NEED GENERIC DRUGS. BUT CAN THEY TRUST THEM?
The fake quality-control data, bird infestations and toxic impurities at the overseas plants in India and China that could be making your medication.
The poorer the country... the poorer the quality of the imported generics from India and China.... The lesser the impartial quality controls, the lesser the reliability of the imported drugs. E.g. the Hiv-aids drugs which South Africa imported have only a less than 50% change that they really are reliable.
If the US will intensify the trade war with China, it could be possible (at least theoretically) that China would curtail the exports of antibiotics to western countries. There are NO factories in the west left, which produce antibiotics anymore. This dependence should - in my view - being addressed as a very neglected, but important strategic policy issue.
Recently two books illustrate the dangers of the dependence by western countries on the outsourcing of generics production in India and China.
