E-drug: Patents and Access to drugs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The debate on patents and access to drugs is quite healthy and
valid. However, I hope that those of us working with/for
governments in countries where access to Acetyl Salicylic Acid,
Chloroquine (still a very useful drug), Paracetamol, Iron-with-folate
and many more, remain a pipe dream, will not be sucked too deeply
into a bottomless pit. We still have to and can make progress with
improving access to generic essential drugs for malaria, common
infections, anemia etc., saving/protecting many vulnerable lives, at
the same time "bypassing"/"minimising" the highly charged arena
of patents.
