E-drug: Patient Observed Sterile Treatment (POST) (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If I am reading Valeria's message correctly, from public health
perspective, the cost of using contaminated needles or equipments is
extremely high and beyond any calculated risk/benefit ratio.
Transmitted diseases are flourishing in the developing countries
because of such practices. I would rather not treating (when life
saving is not imminent) knowing infecting patients with HIV, hepatitis
B, or other serious/fatal infectious diseases are a possibility/
probability baring in mind that the damage is not limited to those
patients who expose to non sterile needle/equipment treatments, it
goes beyond them to include their families, spouses, children, and
others who are in direct or indirect contact with them. Breaking the
circle has to take a place and must be back-up and encouraged by all
means. The only easy, and less costly way to control this practice, is
to have the patients get actively involve over sighting some lousy
health care workers.
