E-DRUG: Pharmacist role in India (7)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I quite agreed with most of those that contributed to this glaring short coming of Pharmacists especially in resourse constrain setting and Africa in particular. Pharmacists view operation of Pharmacies as business entirely with out putting patient wellbeing and safety first. They hardly practice Pharmaceutical care and the issue of identification of drug therapy problem is vertually zero.

Pharmacists in Sub-Saharan Africa hardly stays in their premises, busy looking for LPOs and contracts. Pharmacists that practices pharmaceutical care as best practice will be respected in the community and at the end make profit.

There must be a paradigm shift from selling drugs to patient care. Interventions documented and use during feedback/peer review meeting of their association. Prescriptions will surely come to their premises not to open drug market because they have morethan drug as commodity to offer. Re newwal of practice lincence through regulation should be based on documented Pharmacist intervention, especially evidence of ADR reports, drug therapy problems solved and real community involvement.
