E-drug: Pharmacists role in HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care
---------------------------------------------
How are pharmacists in the world engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS?
What are their activities in the field of prevention, treatment and
pharmaceutical care at the local level?
What can we learn from these experiences?
The Essential Drugs and Medicines Policy Department of the World Health
Organization and the International Pharmaceutical Federation are
combining their efforts to promote and stimulate the role that
pharmacists can play in the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic. A
set of four modules will be developed, building on existing
experiences, and providing guidance to initiate activities or to
strengthen existing projects.
One module will deal with the role of pharmacists in HIV/AIDS
prevention for injecting drug users; one module will address the role
of the pharmacist with regard to the safe and effective use of
antiretroviral therapies, HIV-opportunistic infection drugs and
palliative care. Another module will deal with the question of
prevention and information to participants. The fourth module will
give instructions for specific adaptation and the effective use of
the three others, depending on the different countries.
We would like to start the work with an inventory of the ongoing activities
an existing material. We propose to include some of these activities in the
modules as lessons learnt and best practices. All the information
that you could provide would be very much appreciated. Kindly fill in
the brief questionnaire below and send it directly to
renaudtheryf@who.int before 10 March 2001. If you are also interested
in contributing to the development of one of the modules, please
indicate by completing Part B of the questionnaire. We will inform
readers of E-DRUG, TREATMENT ACCESS and E-MED of the results of this
project.
Thank you for your cooperation.
