E-DRUG: Polypharmacy in India - Measures to be taken

E-drug: Polypharmacy in India - Measures to be taken
---------------------------------------------
Dear E-Druggers,
To prevent polypharmacy and other undesirable prescripton practices we
should take different strategies.
1.Peer review of prescriptions by the profession can be done at the
medical academic institutions and by professional organisations and
prescription auditing can be done. Based on the findings prescription
protocols can be issued.
2. Independent and scientific drug information should be given to
doctors periodically by publishing Drug Formularies and treatment
protocols. It is important that these publications are updated regulary.
3.Doctors should be given training on the Concept of Essential Drugs.
4.The concept of Essential Drugs should be included in the medical
curricula.
5. For those erring medicos inspite of the above measures , the adequate
laws should be formulated by the health departments, drug controllers and
the medical council.
