E-drug: "Priority and Misused Drugs in Nepal"
---------------------------------------------
Dear Editor,
Thank you for your comments and questions to our study on "Priority
and Misused Drugs in Nepal" published in E-drug on 02 Dec 1998. We
are pleased to reply to your comments and questions. The diagnosis is
based on diagnosis by the prescribers on prescription. The priority
and other drugs were defined before the study.

Conclusion: There are differences in prescribing practices of
qualified prescribers at public and private sector. The practices for
common problems are better in public sector than at private sector.
The unqualified practitioners recommend drugs for common problems and their
usual practices include even the use of harmful, ineffective and expensive
drugs.

Thank you.
Yours Sincerely

[If drugs defined as Priority Drugs are those on the Essential Drugs List,
please could you tell us how drugs outside the list become available on the
Nepalese market? Who is approving them for importation or manufacture and
how are they distributed to sellers? BS]
