E-drug: Use of priority and misused drugs in Nepal (2)
------------------------------------------------------
Dear friends,
This is a very interesting study. However, in addition to the questions
asked by Wilbert Bannenberg, I should like to ask:
how comes that
INAPPROPRIATE DRUGS (defined as the drugs, which are not
necessary or not useful)
INEFFECTIVE DRUGS (defined as the drugs, which have been
claimed to be effective but are not effective)
HARMFUL DRUGS (defined as the drugs banned in Nepal)
are available on the Nepalese market?
Who is approving them for importation or manufacturing?
Valerio Reggi
WHO, Geneva
[How effictive are Drug Regulatory Authorities in dealing with:
1. harmful drugs (inspectorate? customs? law enforcement?),
2. ineffective drugs (how 'strict' is the regulatory authority in
approving?) and
3. inappropriate drugs (how effective are the package inserts / drug
information messages to prescribers and consumers?
This is an important discussion! Performance indicators for DRAs?
The next world conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities will be in Berlin,
April 1999. Maybe E-drug could make an input there? WB]
