E-DRUG: Privatization of drug supply organizations (8)
-----------------------------------------------

Dear Gamal Khalafalla

The Malaysian drug distribution system was privatized in 1994 and one of our articles " Effect of privatization of Malaysian drug distribution system on the prices of anti-infective in Malaysia" has been published in Journal of Pharmaceutical Finance, Economics and Policy Vol13.3.You can read the abstract at https://www.haworthpress.com/store/ArticleAbstract.asp?ID=54998. If you are interested to read the full article, kindly let me know and I will be glad to send a copy.

Here is the Abstract
This study reports the effect of privatization of the General Medical Store (Malaysian drug distribution channel) on the prices of different anti-infectives. Post-privatization pricing depicted increasing price trend, lessening of drug prices in some cases, and high price variations when compared with pre-privatization prices of the drugs. This may have affected the budget of the government over the years after the privatization. While comparing with International Reference Prices (IRP), the increased prices of some of the drugs were found tremendously more than the lessening of the prices of other drugs. These findings invite Governmental intervention in the regulation of prices, the control on privatization and in formulating standard pricing policy.
