E-DRUG: Problem manufacturers

E-drug: Problem manufacturers
----------------------------------------------------------

Dear e-druggers

I recently attended a meeting of the AFDRAN, African Drug regulators
Network. At this meeting there was considerable discussion on regulatory
problems in developing countries, and much discussion on common issues
facing the region. One of the bigger problems appears to be that associated
with poor/bad
manufacturers - substandard products, counterfeits, etc. I am sure that this
issue goes far wider than the African continent.

Most of us are familiar with the problem drug concept and there is a lot of
sharing on common drug problems. I wondered whether we should also not be
looking at problem manufacturers. Surely that would be addressing part of
the problem at the root!

Would there be any value to keeping a list of "problem manufacturers"
somewhere ?, who would/ could keep it ?, what would be the best way to keep
people informed ? would it be better to keep reporting informal and send
out an alert on e-drug ?

Any suggestions comments or criticisms welcome. Should the idea should be
torpedoed ...

thanks
