E-drug: Promoting Rational Drug Use in the Community (PRDUC)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the initial success of our first two courses, we are pleased to
announce the third international training course on Promoting Rational Drug
Use in the Community (PRDUC), jointly organized by the World Health
Organization's Department of Essential Drugs and Medicines Policy, the
University of Amsterdam and the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. This
year's course will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 3-16 November 2002,
hosted by the Center for Health Policy Studies of the University of Mahidol,
Bangkok, Thailand.
We received very positive feedback from the previous
courses. In one telling comment, a participant said that he now realized
that in his professional life he had "only been looking at half the
picture". Another spoke of being helped "to use scarce resources to
implement the most appropriate, feasible and needed interventions". We know
that we will build on this success in Thailand, and we are counting on your
help in promoting the course as widely as possible, to ministries of health,
universities, development agencies, NGOs and others.
In this highly participatory two-week course, participants learn how to
identify effectively and prioritize community drug use problems; choose and
develop appropriate intervention strategies and communication channels;
pretest materials; evaluate impact; and fundraise and network for support
and sustainability. The course complements and follows a similar approach to
the international training course on Promoting Rational Use of Drugs
organized by The International Network for the Rational Use of Drugs (INRUD)
and WHO. However, it is distinctive in that it is the only such training
course to focus on the community side of promotion of rational drug use.
For information about this year's
course, an application form, as well as advice as to which organizations
applicants may approach to seek funding for participation, please visit the
