E-DRUG: Quality assurance (cont'd)

E-drug: Quality assurance (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

I have not followed the whole discussion concerning drug QA but I
just returned from Wurzburg, where I was formally introduced to the
new GPHF Minilab, a joint effort between the German Pharma Health
Fund and the Medical Mission Institute in Wurzburg. The Minilab
offers simple test methods for QA of drugs in developing countries
and is really very well done. The important message and advice
however I would like to give is that a lab (even the most excellent
one) needs to be promoted with training, CE, follow-up, maintenance,
a reference lab, political support and a QA program that enables the
concerned to take action. The MI in Wurzburg has just started its first
training course on Monday. The Minilab is available but currently at a
stage where more studies are being conducted to test its applicability.
For more information you may look under www.gphf.org. The Medical
Mission Institute in Wurzburg has an Appro Tech Department and the
contact persons are: Prof Fleischer, Dr. Kohler and Mrs Miksch. This
Minilab might proove to be an important tool for drug QA in the
South.

Very best regards,

Karin Wiedenmayer
