E-DRUG: QUININE SYRUP

E-drug: QUININE SYRUP
---------------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,

I'm in need of information on the formulation of a stable form of
quinine syrup using any of the quinine salts. Owing to increased
resistance by Plasmodium Falciparum to other anti-malarials, quinine has
become a life saving drug. However a problem exists when it comes to
paediatric formulations of quinine as we have none in Kenya.
The current practice is to prepare the quinine syrup extemporaneously using
vials of Quinine Dihydrochloride and syrup base.

Martindale 26th Edition refers to Quinine Tincture (B.P.C
1949).Tinct. Quinin. Quinine hydrochloride 2g and orange tincture 100ml.
Dose:2 to 4ml.

However I find the above a very old reference and would appreciate
more upto-date references or any practical information on the subject.

Kindly respond directly through my Email.
