E-DRUG: Rational Drug Use in Punjab, PAKISTAN (2)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
[It can be hard to collect data covering everything in one study. It would be very good to see studies of the promotion and use of neutraceuticals, not only in Pakistan. It is worth investigating in many countries. BS}

Dear colleagues,
RUM is a major subject of concern in Pakistan. Essential medicines management team of WHO has worked country wise covering all 5 provinces at each level ie from PHC to tertiary care hospitals.

The indicators shown in given study are ok but I would add one thing more that antibiotics use in given data is 69.9% for major hospitals, which is not so wondering on one hand in Pakistan because seriously sick patients reach tertiary care centres. On the other hand this high % trend of antibiotics use can be seen at PHC level, which is more serious.

At different levels no important steps are taken yet by any authority.

Also the study does not cover the unnecessary use of neutroceuticals which is mostly prescribed as result of bargain between promoter and prescriber.

Best wishes
