E-DRUG: Re: Drug and Therapeutic Committees

E-DRUG: Re: Drug and Therapeutic Committees (contd)
---------------------------------------------------
Dear Dr. Edelisa D. Carandang,

I would like to call your attention to a study we will publish entitled
"Review of the Functioning of Pharmacy and Therapeutic committees in
Boston area Hospitals". Under the direction of Professor Richard Laing,
Inga Heemink, Eddy Tabit, Brenda Waning and myself developed and executed
this study.

On the belief that equity and quality of care will increase through
better use and management of drugs, and based on the agreement reached
at the International Conference on Improving Use of Medicine (ICIUM)
emphasizing the importance of these committees in improving drug use, we
performed a study among P&T committees in several hospitals within the
Boston area.

Our purpose was to discover the characteristics of a well-functioning P&T
committee through the use of qualitative and quantitative methods. We also
evaluated their impact on policy practice in their respective hospitals.
The data obtained from the qualitative and quantitative indicators were
coordinated to address specific issues such as drug formulary and P&T
committee organization.

If you are interested in the results of our study please contact us.
