E-drug: Re: Drug donations and the Kosovo crisis (cont'd)

Dear colleagues,
As can be read from several contributions, despite all efforts, loads of
expired and unwanted pharmaceuticals can be expected to arrive in Albania
and Macedonia. Based on the extremely negative experiences with these
practices from Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia, interagency guidelines
were developed under guidance of the World Health Organization called
"Guidelines for safe disposal of unwanted pharmaceuticals in and after
emergencies". Hopefully these guidelines are practised from the beginning
by all actors involved, in order to prevent another stockpiling of
thousands of tons of unusable pharmaceutical products that have to be
considered chemical waste.
