E-drug: Safe disposal of expired drugs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[The subject of safe disposal of drugs has been discussed many
times in E-drug. You will certainly want to search the E-drug
archives ( www.healthnet.org/programs/edrug.html ). Plug in the
search term "drug disposal", "donation", "expired drugs" and
others, and you'll get 7 years of discussion of the topic. You
probably also want to review the following publications, which
contain the best recommendations on appropriate drug donating
practices and safe disposal of unwanted or expired drugs:
- WHO. Guidelines for the safe disposal of unwanted pharmaceuti-
cals in and after emergencies. Interagency guidelines. Geneva:
World Health Organization; 1999. WHO/EDM/PAR/99.2.
- WHO. Guidelines for drug donations, 2nd ed . Interagency
guidelines. Geneva: World Health Organization; 1999.
WHO/EDM/PAR/99.4.
Both publications are available from WHO. HH]
Dear friends,
Would you have any suggestion on how to destroy or safely
dispose large quantities of cotrimoxazole syrup, received as a
humanitarian donation to Montenegro in 1999?
