E-drug: Re: No Free Lunch (cont'd)
----------------------------------------------------------
In response to your question: " What is the best source of unbiased new
medication information for a busy clinician?" I would like to note that there
are excellent Drug Information Centres World-wide which provide unbiased,
evidence-based and up-to-date information regarding all drugs available.
Many provide a telephone service which enables busy clinicians to phone in
with their request, be it pharmaceutical or clinical. The drug information
pharmacists/professionals are specially trained to critically evaluate the
literature and, depending on the financial backing of the Centre, have
access to an extensive set of resources:CD-rom databases, reference books,
latest
journals, Internet and clinical expertise. Our Centre is such a Centre, and
if there is none near you or more convenient to use, you are welcome to
email us at: micguest@uctgsh1.uct.ac.za.
Please have a look at our website to find out more about the type of
services we
provide:

You will notice from our logo that SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals
supports our service. They provide significant funding for the day-to-day
operation of our service without having ANY influence on the type of
information provided and the type of work done at the Centre. (We have
specific agreements to ensure this) It is essential that pharmaceutical
companies receive appropriate
recognition for the excellent unbiased work that they do support/fund.
