E-DRUG: Drug Information Centre financing
-----------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers,
We are both polish pharmacists and we need some advice from your part.
At the beggining of january 2007 we have created a first independent Drug
Information Center on the net (http://e-cil.pl) for polish users (patients
and specialists). The service is independent from pharmaceutical industry
and contains some practical and useful information about drugs coming from
different public institutions or agencies from UE and United States. Users
have also the possibility to register and to ask questions about drugs (ex.
interactions, adverse reactions, dosage etc.). The response is sent within
24 hours (or immediately if it's urgent) and users don't pay for this
service.
For the moment we work in the Center as volounteers and we cooperate with
two medical doctors. All people involved in the service are volouteers and
we both, as the owners of the Center, we invest our private money in it.
After two months of activity we can see that the need of this type of
independent information about drugs exists in Poland and we have more and
more users (patients, doctors, pharmacists, nurses) and more and more
questions. But we start to face some financial problems which can influence
the development of the center in the near future. We have tried to search
for some financial help in Poland but it's difficult to have some help, even
if the public and private organizations in Poland consider this service
useful.
We don't have experience searching for funds because the Drug Information
Center on-line is our first project of this type.
We will be very grateful for some advices from e-druggers about "how to
finance such a project?" Maybe some of you had the same problem or maybe you
know some international funds who are interesting in this kind of activity.
In Poland we don't have Drug Information Centers and we believe that the
development of independent drug information is very important. We have
started here the cooperation with polish agency of drugs and pharmaceutical
inspection. We have also some contacts with Centre Regional d'Information
sur le Medicamanent in Rennes (France) who helped us with the scientific
literature, gave us some advices and who still help us with some articles
and sources of information about concrete subjects.
We believe that e-druggers can help us with some advice and share their
experience in this field with us.
Sincerely,
Ewa Zygadło and Paweł Kozaczuk - pharmacists
