E-drug: Re: Stilboestrol adverse effects (contd)
----------------------------------------------------------

The DES case is a sad history of medical failure and the reluctance of
health professionals and pharmaceutical industry to admit mistakes, take
action to repair them and prevent furhter damage. In the Netherlands the
discovery that DES could cause a rare type of vaginal cancer in DES
Daughters in 1971 lead to silence until a group of DES expose women in 1981
started a DES Action group and forced the medical profession and
govermental agencies to face their responsabilities. It took tremendous
effort and organised actions to obtain information about what had happened
between 1946 and 1975 the period in which DES was given to pregnant women
in the Netherlands.

DES Action groups all over the world should be a logical partner for you
to help disseminate the information and find exposed women. DES Action has
a tremendous amount of experience in tracing people and helping them cope,
organise support groups and provide high quality information on sensitive
topics.

For those of you who want to learn more about DES I refer to the WEB site
of DES Action USA:
http://www.desaction.org

You will also find addresses of DES Action groups in other countries.

I will disseminate the posting of Tricia Gardner to the ISDB (International
Society of Drug Bulletins network.
