E-drug: stilboestrol (DES)

Dear E-druggers
I am a drug information pharmacist in Hospital Authority of Hong Kong.
Recently, the Dept of Health has withdrawn stilboestrol from the
market. I would like to enquire if there is any new evidence of
adverse effects leading to such move. Also, are there any other parts
of the world where stilboestrol has been withrawn recently? Thanks

[The "UN Consolidated List of Products whose consumption and/or sale
have been banned, withdrawn, severely restricted or not approved by
governments", 5th edition, United Nations 1994, lists 9 countries which
have banned DES between 1973 and 1983. WHO Drug Information from 1977
listed possible usage for prostate cancer and breast cancer, but this
now seems obsolete information as other, more effective medicines
have been developed for those indications. There are active DES
