E-DRUG: RE: To Dispense or not to dispense

E-DRUG: To Dispense or not to dispense (cont)
---------------------------------------------

Hi All

I must admit I was amazed to read the mail submitted by Margareth and her
reference to "BIG problem" I regard as an understatement! I for one cannot
believe nor accept that pharmacists have allowed a situation to develop to
the degree it has! As Wilbert has quite rightly stated, not that we don't
have our fair share of the problem in SA. Has there been any pro-active
stance or initiatives been taken to rectify the current situation (besides
the legislation issue)?

Here in SA the pharmacist HAS to be an integral part of the health care
system, and the same should apply elsewhere. When reference is made to
"Clinics, are these private hospitals or doctors' surgeries? If pharmacists
"packed up and found somethng else to do" it would be a sad state of affirs
indeed and you would find it difficult to curtail costs and maintain
quality. That alone should be a driving force for pharmacists.

May I suggest that Magareth visit some institutions in SA should an
opportunity arise to see exactly what phamacists can achieve.

Doug
