E-DRUG: RFI: Pharmacy Council in Mozambique? (3)

Hi Douglas,
We are currently working at the Central de Medicamentos e Artigos Médicos
(CMAM) of the Ministry of Health in Mozambique. This is the organization
that employs Medimoc (a private contractor operating the 3 central
warehouses) mentioned in a previous message.
We are currently involved in the rollout of a medical stores accounting and
distribution system tailor made for the Moçambique central warehouses(3),
central hospitals(3), provincial warehouses(10) and numerous provincial and
general hospitals financed by USAID. During development the instruction
was given to provide a facility on the system to cater for registration
details for medicines. To date however there appears to be no requirement
for State medicines, at least, to be registered.
There is a national formulary (FNM) with a legal requirement to cross
reference all medicines transactions with the formulary number. The
formulary is currently under review so there are a number of ex-formulary
items in use. The formulary is being worked on by the pharmaceutical
directorate of the Ministry of Health.
