E-DRUG: RFI - Rationality of paracetamol fixed-dose-combinations
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers
Will it be possible for you to help with the following questions.
a) Rationality of combination of paracetamol & codeine, paracetamol &
tramadol.
b) Efficacy of centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxants
c) I recently came across a paracetamol injection which also contains
lignocaine. Is the use of lignocaine in this preparation needed?
Any reference sources will be useful.
Thanks,

E-DRUG: RFI - Rationality of paracetamol fixed-dose-combinations (2)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Ravi,
There is no 'rationality' of paracetamol combinations following the
essential medicine concept. Fixed dose combinations are only acceptable
if these improve compliance, but in the case of paracetamol there is no
issue of compliance as this medicine is only for very short term use.
Injectable lignocain is usually added to reduce the pain in intramuscular
injection, but it has no therapeutic benefit. As only difference between
i/m and i/v ceftrixone is the diluent. In i/m injection diluent contain
lignocain and in i/v is only water for injection.
