E-DRUG: Role of Calcium?

Ths is regarding the use or rather, prescription of calcium supplements in the form of calcium carbonate and calcium salts as a component of multi vitamin preparations to hypertensive patients, particularily those on calcium channel blockers llike amlodipine and verapamil.
I want to know how is this justified, and whether it is evidence based. What are the pros and cons and what line of action should be taken when faced with prescriptions from doctors requesting simultaneous adminstration of both?
