E-drug: South Centre database for publications
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In October 2000 the South Centre published Carlos Correa's
monograph "Integrating Public Health Concerns into Patent
Legislation in Developing Countries", with support from the
Rockefeller Foundation. The purpose of this publication is to present
developing countries with model options for writing
TRIPS-consistent national legislation that integrated public health
concerns. In particular, this publication underscores the numerous
legislative options available for developing countries to safeguard
public health interests while taking full advantage of the flexibility
afforded under the TRIPS Agreement.
The initial print run of the English version was 5000 copies. The
initial print run was distributed by Mdecins sans Frontires (MSF),
the South Centre, and the World Health Organization (WHO). The
South Centre intends to publish French and Spanish versions (3000
copies each) and distribute them with MSF and WHO. In order to
facilitate efficient distribution, the South Centre is creating a
database of people interested in issues relating to intellectual
property, access to medicines, trade and development. This will be
used to distribute the French and Spanish versions and for future
South Centre publications. If there is sufficient demand, the South
Centre will also publish a second printing of the English version.
Please distribute this notice to all list-serves, electronic fora, and all
individuals you know who would be interested in being in the South
Centre's database for Carlos Correa's monograph "Integrating
Public Health Concerns into Patent Legislation In Developing
Countries", and all future South Centre publications on intellectual
property, public health, trade and development. Please provide me
with the following information: names, government/organizations/
institutions (whichever is relevant to you) and addresses. Please
indicate your language preference. My involvement in this project is
in my own personal capacity and does not constitute my terms of
reference with the World Health Organization.
