It is still possible to join the
ONE-DAY PUBLIC MEETING ON THE WHO INTERNATIONAL PHARMACOPOEIA,
World Health Headquarters, Geneva, 15 July 2011

We are pleased to announce that the Medicines Quality Assurance Programme of the World Health Organization (WHO) is proposing to hold a one-day public meeting on the WHO normative work in the area of medicines quality control. This is aimed predominantly at explaining to interested parties, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, the nature of The International Pharmacopoeia and will provide an opportunity to ask questions they would like answered on The International Pharmacopoeia.

The briefing will include the mechanics - how monographs, including those for antimalarials, are developed etc. - together with explanations of pharmacopoeial approach/policy on a variety of issues and of its role within WHO's overall Quality Assurance activities.

This meeting will also explain how the WHO Medicines Quality Assurance Programme works with The International Pharmacopoeia, how manufacturers could participate in that work and how we could work together efficiently to provide appropriate international testing specifications as an important tool to enable supply of quality medicines to patients.

The briefing should take place on Friday, 15 July 2011 (from 10.00 to 12:00; and 14:00 to 16:30) at WHO headquarters in Geneva and we have pleasure in inviting a representative from your association/company to attend. We do regret, however, that it will not be possible for the World Health Organization to meet any expenses relating to this attendance.

We will have to adopt the policy of "first come-first served" as space for attendance at the briefing will be limited, and we thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to receiving your reply; please send to: BonnyW@who.int.
