E-drug: Storage of drugs matters (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to continue the discussion on storage conditions by supplier -
we in Brunei Darussalam at one time faced the same problem. What
we have done to overcome the problem is this:
Annually, just before the re-issuing of the wholesaler's drug import
and export licenses, the Drug Enforcement Section and Quality &
Drug Control Section of the Pharmaceutical Department, Ministry of
Health, will do a premise and warehouse inspections of all
wholesalers. Should they not meet our criteria of having proper
storage facilities (e.g. air-conditioned warehouse, pharmaceutical
grade refrigerator, air-conditioned van/vehicle etc.), then their
licenses will not be re-issued until the matter is rectified.
For those new wholesalers, i.e. those intending to start a drug
business, the license holder must sit for an exam where they are
tested on their knowledge of proper drug storage condition and the
laws pertaining to sale of drugs. Should anyone fail the exam, they
will not be issued a license.
The licenses are necessary for them to be allowed to import and sell
drug in the country.
The above strategies have helped alleviate the problem enormously.
