E-drug: TB treatment in Cameroon (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
I will like to answer the questions raised by WB re: Why x-ray, why
hospitalisation and what treatment protocol?
X-ray: For pulmonary TB our protocol calls for baseline chest x-ray,
as additional baseline data, such that therapy may be monitored with a
subsequent x-ray. There is however no x-ray for extra-pulmonary TB.
Hospitalisation:
Diagnosis is made in the hospital anyway; the patients come to
hospital and are hospitalised before investigation begins. When a
definitive diagnosis is made, therapy is started and because most
times patients are very ill, we let them take about one week treatment
in hospital before going home. On average these patients end up
spending up to 2 weeks in hospital. In fact, we are considering
building a TB ward.
Treatment Protocol: The treatment protocol we use and drug prices are sent
as an attachment.
Sincerely,

the protocol in the text of the message, or if it is too long, send it to
