[e-drug] Teaching RDU

E-DRUG: Teaching RDU
-------------------------

One of the most important things we are thinking of is the introduction of Rational Drug Use aspects in the curriculum of the faculty of pharmacy in our country. We are in need of advise from persons and institutions and teaching materials in this area.

E-DRUG: Teaching RDU (2)
------------------------------------------

Dear Dr AbuBakar,

This is a great idea. In Pakistan we are teaching Rational Drug Use to our Pharm-D students in the final (5th) year with great success. We are following the WHO Manual, which is being used for training on Rational Drug Use. We changed it slightly, though it's a bit challenging in adapting the concepts for students who lack field exposure.

E-DRUG: Teaching RDU (3)
----------------------------------------------------

Dear Dr AbuBaker,

RUM and essential medicine concept was introduced by me in Pharm-D
curriculam as I was member of HEC and Pharmacy Council of Pakistan as
nominee of Pakistan Pharmacist Association in these carriculam committee.
We included these topics with a strong lobby of practicing pharmacists, as
the academia were not in favour.

But afterwards these topics were being taught by those who did not attend
any such course or training these subjects. That why they lack practical
approch and field experience. Most institutions do not involve practicing
pharmacists with field experience. Before introducing these concepts in the
curriculam, please train the master trainer on these topics.

[Great to hear, Scott! To find all E-Drug postings from its start in 1995, please go to www.essentialdrugs.org/edrug/archives.php . You can do any search on any subject you like! HH]

Thank you for hosting such excellent discussion. I have learned much
from such a short time on e-drug.

I am deeply interested in investigating the Boston University site, but
I just recently joined e-drug, so I missed the initial references. I
would love to research these more, as our organization is considering
the development of RDU training for INGOs. Thank you.
