As a result of an internal promotion, the Health Policy Division of the
George Institute is looking for a new Head to lead our research team in
Sydney, providing technical expertise and people leadership.

The George Institute for International Health is a research organisation
dedicated to the prevention and management of disease and injury through
domestic and international programs. The Institute has offices in
Sydney, Beijing, Hyderabad and London.

Within the George Institute, the Health Policy Division (HPD) focuses on
new products for "neglected diseases" such as malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS,
including analysis of research incentives, innovation pathways, business
models, Product Development Partnerships, regulatory issues and
financing. The HPD has conducted projects for the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation, World Bank, Wellcome Trust, UNAIDS, Global Forum for
Health Research, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and other public
and private not-for-profit organisations.

Head of Research, Sydney

You are looking for a role that combines your excellent intellectual
capacities with the freedom to think innovatively and to have a real
impact on developing world health. You enjoy working in a
multi-disciplinary team of experts, and relish managing people and
resources to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients.

You are responsible for all work conducted by the Sydney research team,
including managing research resources, supervising the quality of
outputs, and providing technical input and analytical leadership to a
team of analysts and researchers. Your health background and analytical
experience allow you to confidently evaluate policy models and
literature, and to translate research findings into innovative and
pragmatic policy proposals. You are able to translate complex concepts
into concise, punchy reports for media and governments, or high-quality
publications for peer-reviewed journals. You deliver articulate
presentations to donors, governments and at international conferences on
behalf of the HPD, but can confidently working on a one-to-one basis
with senior-level stakeholders in industry, research institutes and
government.

In addition to your analytical and research work, you manage a team of
five to six staff, including staff development and mentoring; and
provide input to the Director of the HPD on strategic issues affecting
the Division and the broader George Institute. Your excellent people
and communication skills also allow you to integrate seamlessly with the
London office of the HPD.

To be successful in this role, you will need significant experience in
international health and policy analysis as well as a medical or health
background. Your strong analytical and problem solving skills may have
been honed in a consulting organisation, or in a policy/advisory role in
either the public or private sector.

Willingness to undertake overseas travel to Europe, the U.S., Africa and
Asia is fundamental.
