E-DRUG: the Global Village and essential drugs (contd.)
-------------------------------------------------------
I am interested in the concept that drug + information = medicine.
I would refer you to a comment by Linda Strand, (International
Pharmacy Journal Vol 12, No 4, 1998 p116) in which she suggests that
"providing information to the patient was not seen as a worthwhile
objective in and of itself, but providing information that the
patient needed to help meet a specific goal of therapy is useful to
the patient." This suggests that if we are examining a patient
oriented approach to the safe and effective use of drugs, the
equation should be extended to:
drug + information + pharmaceutical care = patient's desired outcome.
