TRAINING COURSE ON PROMOTING RATIONAL DRUG USE IN THE COMMUNITY
Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Kavre, Nepal
22 - 29 November, 2009
This is eight day residential course developed by WHO for ensuring effective planning, research and implementation of rational medicines use practices in the community for health programme staff from ministries of health, universities, development agencies, NGOs, and individuals interested in improving drug use in the community. This course will be presented by renowned experts in the field.
Objectives
The course concentrates on methods to study and remedy inappropriate medicine use in the community, including an essential analysis of what shapes medicine demand. Participants will be exposed to practical approaches to investigating and prioritizing medicine use problems, and how to develop effective strategies for change. Participants will be identifying the magnitude and nature of inappropriate drug utilization in several settings and understand the adverse impacts of inappropriate use of drugs.

Conducting a rapid appraisal to analyze problems and identify possible solutions

This training will be conducted in Kathmandu University, an autonomous, not-for-profit, non-government institution dedicated to maintain high standards of academic excellence, committed to develop leaders in professional areas through quality education. Kathmandu University is located in mountain landscape in Dhulikhel, about 30 kilometers east of Kathmandu, having round the year pleasant climate and majestic, panoramic Himalayan view. Design
The course is participatory in nature and uses the knowledge, skills and experiences of participants as a major resource throughout. There will be an optimal mix of lectures, group work, fieldwork, and discussions. The course will be conducted in English. The course materials have been developed as per the guidelines of WHO.
Target participants
This eight day course is intended for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, health program managers, policy makers, individuals and representatives of other organizations working for improving the use of drug in community.
Course fee
The course fee is Nepal Rupees 9500. This will cover tuition, course material, field visit, and shared accommodation in a campus guest house, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
