Preamble
UDDS is a system of distributing medications to in-patients in a hospital, and in which each patient's medication requirements are given for only twenty-four periods. Consequently, medications are prepared daily for each patient. This implies that the daily requirements are maintained until the total amount of drugs prescribed for the patient is supplied.
In UDDS, medication is dispensed in a package that is ready to administer to the patient. It can be used for medications administered by any route, but the oral, parenteral, topical and respiratory routes are especially common.
In 2002 we organized a national workshop on UDDS for pharmacists. The outcome of the said workshop was the implementation of the UDDS in some hospitals in Nigeria. We did a follow up workshop in 2005 separately for Pharmacists and Nurses.
These Workshops were very well received.
This present workshop is intended to encourage more institutions to adopt the UDDS and to perfect the procedure in those institutions that have adopted same. A comprehensive review of the scheme would be done through shared experiences synthesized from the case studies. This workshop will sufficiently empower participants to achieve the intended workshop objectives. This is a must workshop for those already running the scheme and those intending to do same.
Workshop Objectives
At the end of the workshop participants will have:
- a deeper theoretical knowledge of UDDS
- a practical knowledge of how to fully implement UDDS in a hospital.
- an understanding of the challenges faced with UDDS implementation and how to overcome them
- developed their capacities in recent developments in hospital pharmacy practice
- been sufficiently motivated to improve their productivity.
Workshop Strategies
The workshop has assembled resource persons of national and international repute to deliver lectures. The workshop will feature pictorial demonstrations, group discussions and close interactive sessions with resource persons. In packaging the workshop, the presence of participants who are already implementing the UDDS was taken into consideration. There would not be one dull moment.Â

Hospital Pharmacists (preferably not below the rank of Senior pharmacist) in the public and private sectors; Pharmacists involved in regulation of pharmaceutical services.

Registration
Registration fee is N50, 000( $350) per participant.( Registration before 20th August will attract a 5% discount. Participants who attended the UDDS workshops we organized in 2002 and 2005 will be given a discount of 5% at registration desk. The registration fee covers tea break, lunch, closing dinner, workshop materials and certificate.

Pre Workshop Assignment
Upon receipt of registration fee, the participants will be sent a pre-workshop assessment form for situational analysis. This enables organizers to customize workshop to maximally benefit all participants.
