E-drug: Use of the DDD for comparison of consumption (cont)
---------------------------------------------
I think that the points raised by John Urquhart are misleading or leading
only to discourage drug consumption studies. On the contrary, the
explanations offered by Irene Litleskare seem to me perfectly clear and
straightforward.
I should only like to add that I believe that the ATC/DDD methodology can
fruitfully be used for price comparison at least:
- between different brands of the same drug (same route of administration
if DDD have different, possibly different strength/form/presentation),
- between me-too drugs where length of treatment is not different.
In this sense, the ATC/DDD methodology can be of use as a complementary
tool in pricing work.
