Hosted by the People that Deliver Initiative, in collaboration with
USAID and WHO/RHR, this virtual forum will explore experiences and
challenges related to the current health supply chain workforce,
including strategies to overcome these challenges.
The People that Deliver Initiative (www.peoplethatdeliver.org) is a new coalition of countries and global health stakeholders that seeks to raise the profile of supply chain management as a key strategic function of health systems and foster workforce excellence in public health supply chain management.
This discussion forum is being convened to inform the June 2011 Global
Positioning and Harmonization Conference, People that Deliver: Meeting
Tomorrow's Health Challenges Through Workforce Excellence in Supply
Chain Management. The discussion will help to develop a global picture
of the current situation, as well as to identify specific country
experiences, challenges and lessons learned. Discussion outcomes will be
highlighted at the global conference, where a variety of governments and
organizations will determine the next steps to move this initiative
forward.
Tentative discussion topics include:
1. Which health cadres have supply chain management
responsibilities in your setting? What qualifications and trainings do
they have? What are the problems and challenges that supply chain
managers face?
2. What mechanisms currently exist to improve the skills,
recruitment and retention of supply chain managers? What resources and
tool are currently available? How could they be more effective?
3. What innovative policies or activities have you seen that have
strengthened human resource capacity in supply chain management? Have
these practices and policies led to improved supply chain performance,
and if so, how?
4. What is the potential impact of the People that Deliver
Initiative? What policy and programmatic inputs are required to raise
the profile of supply chain managers?
How will it work? The forum will run from 16 to 20 May, 2011. The
discussion will be guided by guest contributors from the People that
Deliver Initiative, and participants will have daily opportunities to
ask questions and share experiences, challenges and lessons learned with
colleagues around the world. Each day you will receive one email
introducing the day's topic and questions, and a second email with a
digest of the day's contributions. The discussion will also be archived
on the virtual community's website:
