[e-drug] Webinar 22 Nov Promoting Access to Medicines through Legal Procedures, Guidelines for NGOs

E-DRUG: Webinar 22 Nov: Promoting Access to Medicines through Legal Procedures, Guidelines for NGOs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear reader/colleague,

We would like to invite you to attend our webinar:

The Power of Law: How can NGOs Promote Access to (Covid-19 or other essential) medicines through Legal Procedures? - Lessons Learned from Past Cases.

on November 22nd, 1500-1630 hours CET

Many old/new medicines are not easily accessible or are excessively priced. What laws allow drug companies to engage in these practices? What legal mechanisms can we use to counter these unjust practices?

The Pharmaceutical Accountability Foundation (PAF) is drafting guidelines for NGOs for using legal procedures to counter unjust practices, like we see in Covid-19 times.

In this webinar, we will review a number of cases from which we can learn lessons - cases in which laws have successfully been used (or not) to improve access to medicines or reduce excessive prices. We have invited activists or NGOs who have been involved in such cases will share their stories, e.g. about compulsory licensing, the use of Human Rights and other legal procedures.

We have invited the following panelists

- Ellen 't Hoen (Medicines Law & Policy)
- Sergey Golovin (Intl Treatment Preparedness Coalition, Russia) on remdesivir Compulsory License
- Felipe Carvalho (MSF Brazil)
- Nele Meyer or Patrick Wilken (Amnesty International)
- South African activist/lawyer, on the ARV case 2001-2004

After sharing their stories, the panelists will discuss how to implement the lessons learned in PAFs Legal Guidelines for NGOs.
