E-DRUG: Invitation for the PAF webinar Power of Law part II - Thursday 27 January, 1500-1630 CET
-------------------------------------------------------

dear colleagues,

The Pharmaceutical Accountability Foundation would like to invite you to our webinar this Thursday:

The Power of Law Part II: Presenting PAF’s Guidelines for Legal Action by NGOs

Thursday 27th January 2022, 1500-1630 CET.

Register here: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMofu-uqTktHd3LHDpteAFARyNXR4n8pR13

In our recent webinar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY7GnbNVOaw), we have analysed the power of law for promoting access to medicines, the first of which discussed examples of NGOs taking such action (International Treatment Preparedness Coalition, Treatment Action Campaign, Medicines Law & Policy, MSF).

Based on these real-life examples and our own experiences, we have developed a set of guidelines for NGO considering legal action against pharmaceutical companies which are not respecting their human rights responsibilities.

"The Power of Law Part II" will include a presentation of the guidelines by PAF, illustrated with more examples of how law has been used to promote access to medicines. We will then discuss the possibility of legal action becoming a more widely used tool for NGOs in the field of access to medicines, in addition to activities such as campaigning, researching, or lobbying.

The Guidelines for Legal Action by NGOs can be read or downloaded at:
https://www.farmaterverantwoording.nl/legal-guidelines/

Speakers in the webinar will include:

* Wilbert Bannenberg, chair, Pharmaceutical Accountability Foundation, on our own case against Leadiant for abusing its dominant market position regarding the medicine CDCA

* Patrick Durisch, Public Eye, on the patent opposition case against Novartis on its Kymriah treatment

* Peter Maybarduk, Public Citizen, on health rights litigation cases

* James Love, Knowledge Ecology International (KEI), on their use of the Freedom of Information Act

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A on the Guidelines for Legal Action by NGOs.

The webinar will be moderated by Sabina Voogd, Board member of PAF.
