E-drug: WHA briefings on trade
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[This turned out to be a rather busy E-drug week! However, on important
occasions such as the World Health Assembly, we find it important to keep
you updated on a day by day basis. Not least when such important issue as
drug availablility, prices and patents are discussed! A good thing that 17
May is Norway's national day and I have time to moderate all day! KM,

Dear Friends,
This evening Medecins Sans Frontieres will host a briefing for member
states, press and other interested parties on the revised Bangui trade
agreement which will bring TRIPS plus protection to francophone African
countries if ratified. The meeting will call on WHO to expand its advisory
role to help countries protect public health while they implement
international trade agreements. It will also discuss TRIPs in detail.
MSF is calling on francophone countries not to ratify the agreement.
Copies of the MSF-UNAIDS-WHO joint mission report on this subject can be
obtained from MSF' Access Campaign in Geneva. Write to
Daniel_Berman@geneva.msf.org
You can also read more about it by visiting the MSF website and the access
campaign link.
We will report back on the meeting.
With best wishes,
Lisa Hayes
