[e-drug] WHO Formulary: Database Online

E-drug: WHO Formulary: Database Online
---------------------------------------------

It's great to see that the WHO Formulary can now be accessed via the
Internet without downloading a large PDF file. See:

http://www.who.int/medicines/organization/par/formulary.shtml

However, the database can only be accessed with the Microsoft Internet
Explorer web browser because the expandable / collapsible table of contents
and search functions use Microsoft specific technology (Active X).

Now I know that Bill Gates is a great supporter of WHO but surely a WHO web
site should work with all common web browsers: IE, Netscape, Opera, etc.

Active X functionality can be readily duplicated with Java applets or
JavaScript and the latter works on all Web Browsers. See:
http://www.tg.com.au/complete/tgc.htm (and be patient while the applet
loads).

What do other people think?

Cheers
Ken
