E-drug: WHO and training (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
I would like to contribute to the discussion on the above. I agree
that there are lots of info available on the various WHO websites,
but from experience I know that it is not always easy to access or
search specific information. I find the search machine not as
effective as search engines like Google or Copernic. For example, it
tends to churn up lots of strange document links, which makes it
hard at one glance to see which link is useful, whereas Copernic
and Google tend to pick up more relevant documents and give clear
one or two line intros to the documents. Since downloading time is
slow in the developing countries, clicking each link is costly and
time-wasting, not to mention frustrating.
It also seems that there are few french documents available, which
is a bit strange, knowing that WHO is located in Geneva. My
personal experience with that is in my search for info on essential
drugs and formulary use for french counterparts, I found a
document introducing the concept, while the model formulary is still
in english. Links for french on the http://www.who.int/medicines/
did not work.
Another thing about the model list is that it would really be useful
to have a physical copy that we can buy or order online, for easier
reference, as a computer printed and stapled copy is less practical
to use, although a good enough alternative.
An addition, is there anyway to make WHO publications widely
available and easily order'-able' in big bookshops like Blackwell in
UK or Decitre in France, or online with Amazon.com etc? It would
be even better if they are displayed prominently in bookshops on
the streets, which increases its profile and would definitely
encourage more people to read them and use them. I do admit to
my ignorance of the complexities to do this, but it is on my WHO
wishlist, ha!
