E-drug: WHO & Training (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Dear E-drug users,
I am a lecturer cum clinical pharmacist in a reputed
Pharmacy College of S. India. I truly empathize with the sentiments echoed by
Dr.P.Buschiazzo and Prof. Richard Laing and I have a few comments on the
same.
I feel that the main reason why WHO publications or resources are
not used to their optimum is because most pharmacy teachers in the
developing countries are either unaware of their existence or of the fact
that they can be obtained free of cost/minimal cost, especially in
institutions where there are no computer facilities and internet access is
questionable.
Also, in regard to the training courses conducted, most of said
courses are quite expensive and though WHO does provide a few
sponsorships, they really do not help in the long run as the knowledge/ info
gained through the training program does not actually reach down to level of
the junior faculty who may actually be handling the subject and it may not
even be put to use within the clinical setup of those who participated in
the training in the first place.
I feel it may be more useful to reduce the course fee so that more
candidates can actually make it to the course.
Another alternative would be to ensure that the participants actually make
sure the information of the training session is again taught to their
subordinates and so on so that the training would be repeated in cycles and
would reach a larger audience.
I have been trying quite hard to procure a copy of Managing Drug
Supply for my dept. but have met with no success so far. I would indeed be
very grateful to Prof.Laing if he could provide with the e-mail id or
address to which I can correspond to get a copy of the same.
Though WHO is setting exemplary standards by providing many
resources, the fact remains that very little actually reaches the
institutions in developing countries.
