E-DRUG: Why donations of sample/outdated drugs are welcome (cont)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
On behalf of the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations, which comprises
now ten pharmaceutical firms and six NGOs, I endorse the views expressed by
Tom Puls. It is clear that people who take the trouble to collect and send
samples and outdated drugs have good intentions, and perhaps most of these
donations can be useful. But overriding these good intentions, the fact
remains that samples pose a burden on already-hard-pressed practitioners at
the receiving end, and outdated drugs are, by definition, not good enough.
People concerned about the quality of medicines available in areas affected
by disasters or political unrest need to ask what we can do to redirect the
energies of the people and organizations that now send samples and outdated
products. It's too easy, and too pointless, to merely criticize them.
