A NEW WEBSITE ON ACTs
Artemisinin based Combination Therapies (ACTs) are a cornerstone of the new
treatments against malaria and you are involved either on the production or
the usage or the knowledge of the products.
In order to inform the community of people and companies involved in malaria
and ACTs, we have opened the website: www.artepal.org .

Through this site, we intend to inform you on the different phases of the
production of ACTs, from artemisia annua plantations , extraction and
purification processes , to the pharmaceutical production and the WHO
prequalification . We hope this will answer to questions which are often
asked to WHO/RBM and to different NGOs or organizations.
If the technical aspect of the production is important, we think that until
now, the information on the market are very weak. We try to answer the main
questions on this aspect through different surveys through internet or
during meetings. We provide you information on different aspects including
inventories of producers of artemisinin and producers of ACTs , forecasts
from WHO and others when available.

Do not hesitate to contact us and send your comments and information to
share.
We hope you will be a frequent reader of this site.

african countries in East Africa and Madagascar. Projects for plantations
were announced in numerous other countries. On the other side, the demand
increased in 2005 and2006 for treatments, but not as quickly as expected by
the producers. The lack of new pre-qualified laboratories limited the coming
of newcomers on the ACT market. Also, the decision from WHO to ask
pharmaceutical laboratories to stop the production and sales of
monotherapies impacted some producers.
