OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :

1. In consultation with the Secretary of the Expert Committee on Selection
and Use of Essential Medicines, oversee the commissioning and review of
applications for changes to the Model List, including collaborating with
groups such as the Cochrane Collaboration, supervision of consultants and
consultation with the members of the Expert Panel on Drug Evaluation. Assist
in preparation of the Committee agenda documents and reports, for the 18th
Expert Committee (planned for first quarter, 2011).

2. Provide clinical advice and expertise to the projects on reproductive
health medicines by reviewing national essential medicines lists, project
reports and documents and providing comment and critical evaluation as
requested. Description of duties:
Development of the existing analytical tools for assessment of the
selection, supply of and use of medicines in country health systems,
particularly reproductive health medicines and medicines for children. In
cooperation with regional and country offices, provide country support in
the application of the assessment tools, including carrying health facility
assessments, analysis of supply systems and preparation of reports as
requested. Contribute to the normative work required to complete the
objectives of the Gates project on better Medicines for Children,
particularly the development of clinical trial guidance and guidance for
regulatory authorities (objective 3 of the project). In consultation with a
P5 Clinical Pharmacologist, develop the methods for clinical assessment of
dependence potential of medicines to support the work of the Expert
Committee on Drug Dependence. Participate in national and international
meetings and conferences, and perform other duties as assigned by
supervisors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:
Essential:
University degree in medicine.
Postgraduate degree in epidemiology or public health or related
sciences. Skills:

Knowledge and skills:
Very high level skills in analysis and critical appraisal. Skills in writing

communication skills. Fluency in English essential.

Experience:

Essential:

At least 3 years' experience in clinical medicine, plus at least 4 years'
experience required in international public health or evidence based
medicine. Experience in critical appraisal and evaluation, and managing
external consultants of all backgrounds. Experience in developing tools
to assess health systems, especially related to the pharmaceutical sector.

Desirable:

Experience working with, or knowledge of the international organizations
relevant to supply of essential medicines in reproductive health or child
health. At least 3 years experience working in a multidisplinary environment
an advantage, and experience of living or working in health systems
indeveloping countries. Experience or knoweldge of the process of WHO Expert
Committees.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English. Good working knowledge of French desirable.
Working knowledge of Spanish desirable. Additional Information:
